Choc Superfood Smoothie
I can’t even begin to think about how much money I’ve spent on smoothies over the years. With prices ranging from around $8 – $12 it’s a pretty costly healthy addiction! AND you can’t always guarantee that over the counter smoothies are loaded with all the goodness they promise or are not secretly hiding away extra sugars or processed nasties!
As part of my resolutions for 2017, I’ve promised myself to forget calories once and for all and only consume foods that will benefit my health. As smoothies have always been a favourite, I thought I would give it a try using ingredients I have in the cupboard. As I’m a fan of the raw food smoothies from Little Bird, I thought I’d try what I think is in their raw Cacao superfoods smoothie. FYI: it was AMAZING! And I’m so full!
Made from almond milk, banana, cacao and dates, this smoothie would have cost around $2.50 – $3 to make and that’s way cheaper than a store bought one! Plus, there’s no additives, no preservatives and it’s only made from real food. Oh, and it’s gluten free to boot and loaded with protein, vitamins and all the goodness that cacao brings, being a superfood.
This smoothie has a really chocolatey flavour too so be prepared to serve your chocolate addiction with exactly what it wants – IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE! I’m pretty sure that even the kids will like this, plus you can hide in there some leafy greens for added nutrition.
- 250 – 300 mls almond milk (or soy, or rice or dairy)
- 1 medium size banana
- 2 medjool dates
- 1 tbsp of cacao powder
- 6 ice cubes
- Spinach (optional)
Blend all together (I used a Ninja Bullet to do it), pour into a pretty glass and drink!
